This self-titled nine-song album comes charging out of the gate as the first release from PRhyme, a collaborative duo of exceptional East coast hip-hop producer DJ Premier and Eminem protg Royce da 5'9'. Meanwhile production is handled entirely by DJ Premier of course, who uses AntMan Wonder’s catalog as his sole source for samples. Premier 's beats supplied a multi-colored backdrop for some of the best tracks made by Notorious B.I.G., Nas, and other huge names in. Last week, Preemo informed fans that Philly rapper Lil Uzi Vert was supposed to be featured on the song “Everyday Struggle,” but he didn’t have enough time to finish his verse before the album came out.“Royce gave him a blueprint of singing the hook, but he didn’t really want to sing that hook, he wanted to do his own,” DJ Premier told DJ Booth about the missed Uzi collab. There come’s a time in one’s life where you start to realize certain individuals aren’t completely human.“He said, ‘I’ll write my own hook, and I want to do a verse. The Gang Starr producer could have retired in 1999 and gone down in history as one of the best yet, but his catalog has just grown and grown over the last two decades to include countless classic 12” singles and a steady stream of excellent LPs. But let’s not dwell on their past achievements because PRhyme is very much about two veterans challenging themselves in the present.
“PRhyme2” is most certainly a contiunation, yet feels even more experimental than the original’s sample source, provided by Adrian Younge.
“PRhyme 2” sees Premier locked down to Antman Wonder and it lends a harsher sound yet one that still gives the record a PRhyme feel (as opposed to a Premo feel).
